What to look for in a Rifle Scope
Not sure what you really want or need when looking for your first hunting scope? They make entry-level riflescopes created for hunters on a budget. Educate yourself and look at how you think you will be hunting. Big game hunting like elk or bear, or will you be hunting pheasant and birds, rabbit or other small game? There is nothing wrong when you purchase your first hunting scope to go with inexpensive optics. Go hunting, is this something you enjoyed, hunting is not for everyone. So give it a try, don't deck yourself out with all the latest and greatest hunting gear only to find out this was not for you. If you find out on the other hand you really enjoyed shooting and hunting then look for the features that make shooting more pleasurable. Decide what your sport will be, competition shooting, hand gun, varmint hunting, or big game, tactical?
The more features you have in a rifle scope the more expensive it will be obviously. Most optics will have the standard features such as waterproof and fog proof, but may not be shock proof. Does it have a wire or an etched reticle a wire reticle can be knocked out of place making the scope unusable? Some reticles offer to illuminate red or green with multiple brightness settings. Green is the easiest light or color for the human eye to see and causes no typical "night blindness" associated with standard or high intensity flashlights. High power green laser light reflects intensely off the eyes of animals allowing quick detection this works well for both night hunting and game spotting. Is it compatible with every generation of night vision devices? Is there laser emission that could be harmful to your eyes?
Camera quality glass is offered on some models. How the scope is mounted, by rings, rail and does the scope have the mounting system built in or is it separate? Weight is always a concern yet you want it to be rugged and of durable construction.
Is the rifle scope built for the intended purpose, rifles, carbines, shotguns, or handguns? Trying to adapt a scope to something it is not intended to be use for is trouble waiting to happen. Do the power ring and parallax adjust ring provide a firm, no-nonsense grip relief grooves? Are they built primarily for use in daylight and in low light conditions or for law enforcement and military applications? Any hazardous materials, nitrogen filled, built-in sunshade, scope covers? What is the warranty, limited, lifetime, replacement, repair?
As always it does not matter how much you're optics cost if you don't know how and when to use them. Practice makes perfect, knowing your equipment makes it safe, and everyone making it safely home should be in everyone sight.

First Aid Kits for Camping
Imagine a situation like this:
You've just selected your tent campsite and have started to set-up your tent, when one of your kids comes running to you with a cut finger. I'm sure you can think of other scenarios when you might need to administer first aid. If you didn't remember to pack a first aid kit you'll need to improvise with what you have with you and if it's something more serious, you may need to curtail your camping experience. Many campers and hikers often set-out without any sort of first aid equipment and don't give it a second thought until it's too late. Accidents, as you can see, can and do happen from time to time. However, with a little time and money you can be prepared for most emergencies.
First, you should make sure each vehicle you have has a first aid kit. You can always use these when you're camping. These types of first aid kits may not have everything you'll need, but it's better than nothing.
You have a couple of options when it comes to putting together a camping first aid kit - buy a pre-made one or build your own. When you decide to design your own first aid kit, think of the probable injuries you may encounter: cuts, scrapes, sprains, strains, dislocations and breaks, burns, bites and stings, headaches and minor aches, nausea and diarrhea.
Here's a basic list of items for your camping first aid kit:
* Brightly colored fanny pack - to hold your first aid kit ingredients
* Flashlight w/batteries - a small one that fits in a pocket of your fanny pack
* Whistle and mirror - for signaling for help
* Tweezers and a magnifying glass - for removing slivers or ticks
* Scissors - to cut gauze and bandage tape
* Alcohol wipes - for cleaning needles, clippers, tweezers, and to clean off the affected area you're treating
* Aloe Vera Gel - for minor burns - including sunburn, and skin rashes
* Neosporin - for minor cuts
* Bandages - various sizes, 4x4 gauze, roll gauze, and adhesive tape
* Splint material - bandana and large safety pins
* Antiseptic - to wash out cuts and scrapes
* Handbook for first aid - provides instructions for most emergencies
* Tylenol or Motrin for adults and children
* Benadryl - for allergic reactions
* Pepto-Bismol (chewable tablets) - for anti-nausea, anti-diarrhea, and antacid
* Saline solution - eye wash and to irrigate other wounds
* Bug spray
* Non-latex medical gloves - for those performing first aid
* Bee sting and snake bite kit as appropriate
Also it's a good idea to bring any medications specific to those at your campsite (prescriptions, inhalers, diabetic supplies, etc).
I'm sure you can think of other items or think some of these suggestions are not necessary. The most cost effective way to get what you'll need is to buy a basic kit and add camping specific items to it.
As you can see, you don't want to leave home without a Camping First Aid Kit. You never know when you might need one. Be prepared.

Emergency Radios Can Be Essential to Survival
An everyday AM/FM battery powered radio may not be enough to keep your family safe. Once you understand the difference between a radio and an emergency radio you will understand how the difference can be critical to your family's safety. FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) has recommended an emergency preparedness kit including important items that families should have in the event of an emergency. First and second on the list is water and food, obviously. The third item on the list is an emergency radio. FEMA's definition of emergency radios is a "battery-powered or hand crank radio," as well as, "an NOAA Weather Radio with tone alert." Fortunately, radios are now available with all the necessary emergency features on one receiver.
Using FEMA's definition and recommendations, let's examine what type of emergencies you might be subject to and just what kind of radio you should have in order to be safe. If you live in an area where you could experience sudden dangers, as with the central United States known as tornado alley, then you need a radio that will provide instant information as soon as the National Weather Service broadcasts a warning. You will need a radio that provides S.A.M.E. (Specific Area Message Encoding) technology which can be programmed to receive emergency weather broadcasts in your specific area, as well as, NOAA weather information with a Weather Alert feature. Both of these features on a radio will automatically turn the radio on, send an alarm through the radio, and provide you with important information you need to have immediately.
Coastal Communities also have an essential need for the right type of emergency radio. Hurricanes are tracked for a number of days before they arrive on land and families generally have time to prepare or leave an area in the path of the storm. In this case you may determine that a weather alert feature isn't as important and decide to settle for a radio that will keep you connected to the weather channels or local broadcasts when you choose to be updated. Severe storms and thunderstorms, although they can be dangerous to life and property, do not equal the urgency of a tornado. However, if you are camping with family or friends you may feel that having a radio with NOAA Weather Alert is important so you can be informed of severe weather, flash flooding, or subsequent dangers in your remote location.
Tornados and hurricanes are two of the most severe of weather emergencies, but these are not the only things you may need to prepare for. Emergency guides suggest that we should be prepared to survive on our own for a minimum of three days following an emergency. So we must, at a minimum, have the capability of receiving local news and weather during this period. In addition to weather emergencies we must also prepare for a local power outage. Power outages can be caused by a storm that went through, the flood that follows, or a minor earthquake that has managed to not only knock-out power, but may have also disrupted emergency services. These are all common events. With electricity out, the radio's power source becomes critical. Many radios have numerous sources of power including not only replaceable batteries and AC adaptors, but hand cranks for recharging batteries and even solar panels. Some radios go even further and have the capability of powering other items, such as your cell phone.
So what kind of radio do you need for survival in an emergency? Knowing what the potential emergencies are in your area will enable you to find a radio equipped with the required features needed to insure your family's safety and survival. Are you prepared?

Who are the Australian Aborigines?
There are several theories about their origin and their landing on present Australia.
Their origin is most probably from the Indian subcontinent and they migrated to Australia over 40.000 years ago. If by boat, it would be through Indonesia, if by land, it would be when Australia was still connected to land or over the ice tens of thousands of years ago.
Whichever way they arrived is not our topic in here. What we aim to draw your attention to in this article is the Dream Time as it is known by the aborigines, the culture which they learn through storytelling and things they have in common with other theological references and science, Such as the story of creation.
The Dreamtime refers to a time before time, an outside of time, in which the past, present and future coexist at the same time, sharing parallels with the story of Genesis and the time of creation. Only in dreamtime life follows a cycle in which there is no real beginning and no real end.
Dreamtime, also called The Dreaming, consists of four parts: The beginning of all; the life and power of the ancestors; the way of life and death; and power in life. It is more powerful than time and space. The aborigines call Dreamtime the all-at-once time referring to the past, present, and future at the same time.
Aborigines believe that people have a part of them which is eternal. And it existed before ones birth and will exist after ones death. It exists in The Dreamtime.
Their notion of space and identity stresses on their concept of movement in relation to space and time. The Dreamtime stories contain, moral, spiritual, and psychic understanding, all kinds of practical information. They move through space, and we move through time.
Their Dream Times is a mystical spiritual experience, its myth contains fragmented memories of their early history. They also believe in oneness of person, body, spirit, ghost, shadow, name, spirit site and totem". Their dreaming is not a historical event but rather a vertical string in which past and present meet at one point. They regard dreaming as a unity of reality and dream life. Example, If one wants to achieve something in reality one must first find it in dream life and bring it into reality. Their dreaming involves many activities including the action of spirits and their travel to sacred sites. They chose their medicine man based upon his history of successful trances and visions initiating new recruits with magic rituals involving spirit beings. Rituals involve fear, isolation and suggestion, while preparing for initiation by a two-month fast. He may be given "new insides", and quartz crystals may enter his body to provide power. He is given magic (astral) rope enabling him to fly through the air (have an out-of-body experience or OBE). He acquires X-ray vision from what is called Maben stones.
Healing involves songs or spells, in the presence of quartz crystals, tektites (small rounded, dark brown to green glassy objects that are composed of silicate glass and are thought to have been formed by impact of a meteorite with the earth's surface), shells or special stones. Techniques include sleight of hand, ventriloquism, massaging and sucking, and acute perception and hearing.
Medicine men supposedly had such powers at will; they were excellent magicians. With psychic abilities resulted from openness to experience, disregards to time factor, and the quiet and solitude of the bush, Sorcery, telepathy over huge distances, X-ray vision, sending the "dream familiar" out of the body (OBE), hypnotism, and fire-walking.
Aborigines tell about the beginning of creation, and their description of the event is very similar to what is mentioned in the Bible and the Quran even though they date thousands of years back and long before these religions, hinting to the oneness of the source and its origin.
Once again we notice a repetition of human interests ever since the dawn of humanity and ever since the first man walked on earth.
Past, present and the future are connected indeed.
Mythology, theology and science are bound to meet for they share common interests.
